From Cricket to Chess: A Journey of Passion, Photography, and Triumph at the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2025

Thrilling Finale of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League 2025: A New Champion Emerges

Mumbai, India – The atmosphere was electric as the final days of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League (GCL) 2025 unfolded, showcasing not just the brilliance of chess but the raw emotion that comes with it. The PBG Alaskan Knights and Alpine SG Pipers faced off in a gripping showdown that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

The PBG Alaskan Knights secured a decisive victory over the Alpine SG Pipers, earning their place in the finals. However, the real drama unfolded when the reigning champions, the Triveni Continental Kings, clashed with the Alpine SG Pipers in a battle for the title. In a stunning upset, the Pipers emerged victorious, ending the Kings’ two-year reign and claiming the championship.

As a passionate chess photographer, I had the privilege of capturing these intense moments. Armed with my Canon EOS R6 Mark 2 and a 100 mm f2.8 lens, I documented the silent calculations, the palpable tension, and the explosive energy that filled the arena. Each click of the shutter froze a moment in time, revealing the intricate dance of strategy and emotion that defines chess.

From the focused expressions of legendary players like Vishy Anand and Fabiano Caruana to the candid laughter shared between competitors, my lens captured the essence of the tournament. The camaraderie and rivalries on display highlighted the unique spirit of team chess, where individual brilliance converges into a collective effort.

The final matches were a testament to the players’ grit and determination. As the confetti settled and the digital clocks were switched off, it became clear: the Alpine SG Pipers had not only claimed the title but had also showcased the beauty of chess as a team sport. The GCL continues to prove that while chess may be a solitary endeavor at the board, it transforms into a spectacular spectacle when played as a team.

This event was more than just a series of moves; it was a celebration of passion, strategy, and the indomitable spirit of the game. As I reflect on the moments captured, I am reminded that the true victory lies in the love for chess and the connections forged through it.

Stay tuned for more pictorials in our series, “The Year That Was – 2025,” as we continue to celebrate the incredible journey of chess and its vibrant community.
