Prime Minister Narendra Modi Hosts Chess Olympiad Winners at Residence
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently welcomed the Indian men’s and women’s chess teams to his residence to celebrate their historic victories at the 45th Chess Olympiad. The teams made history by securing gold medals in their respective categories, marking the first time India achieved a double gold in the same edition of the competition.
During the visit, PM Modi observed a game of bullet chess between two members of the men’s team, R Praggnanandhaa and Arjun Erigaisi. The Prime Minister shared a video of the intense match on social media, praising the young Grandmasters and expressing optimism for India’s bright chess future.
In the final round of the tournament, the Indian men’s team, led by players like D Gukesh and Vidit Gujrathi, defeated Slovenia to clinch the gold medal. The women’s team, featuring players like Harika Dronavalli and Divya Deshmukh, also secured gold by beating Azerbaijan in the final round.
The USA and Uzbekistan claimed silver and bronze in the men’s competition, while Kazakhstan and the USA took silver and bronze in the women’s competition, respectively.
