Exploring the Vibrant City: A Culinary Adventure with a Twist

The city of Mumbai is known for its vibrant culture and diverse celebrations, and this past week was no exception. From Janmashtami festivities to chess tournaments and architectural awards, the city was buzzing with activity.

One of the highlights of the week was the Janmashtami celebrations at Sane Guruji school in Dadar, where a little child dressed as Lord Krishna was captured relishing a snack. The image of the young Krishna enjoying his puri was a sight to behold, showcasing the joy and spirit of the festival.

In Kalyan, a new chess club called Alpha Knights organized its first instructional session to celebrate Chess Day. Co-founder Jayesh Rangani, a professional project manager, led the session and received positive feedback from both kids and parents in the suburb. The session, held at Kala Talav in Kalyan West, aimed to teach the basics of the game to aspiring players.

Meanwhile, Thomas House at Cathedral and John Connon School in South Mumbai received the International Award from the Chicago Athenaeum for Restoration/Renovation. The building, a Grade II heritage structure, underwent a significant restoration project to adapt it from a bank to a school while preserving its historical integrity. The award recognized the successful restoration efforts and set a precedent for similar projects in the future.

In the spirit of Gokulashtami, Baccha Party hosted children’s dahi handi celebrations at their venues in various locations across Mumbai. The events provided a safe and fun environment for children to experience the thrill of the festival without the crowds and chaos of traditional dahi handi celebrations.

Lastly, Bandra’s Santa Maria restaurant introduced an athlete-inspired breakfast menu, featuring dishes inspired by local icons like former Paralympian Mark Dharmai. Mark, a member of the Koli community, made history by winning a gold medal in boccia at the 2023 World Dwarf Games. His favorite dish, a mortadella sandwich, is now a part of the restaurant’s menu, showcasing the culinary creativity and community spirit of Mumbai.

Overall, the city was sliced, diced, and served with a dash of sauce, offering a mix of cultural, sporting, and architectural delights for its residents to enjoy.
