Yip Pin Xiu Clinches Double Gold at Para Swimming World Championships

Singaporean para-swimmer Yip Pin Xiu continues to dominate the pool, clinching two gold medals at the Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester. The 31-year-old secured victories in the women’s 50m and 100m backstroke S2 events, adding to her impressive collection of world championship titles.

Yip’s winning streak is nothing short of remarkable, as she has now claimed double gold in these events for three consecutive editions of the World Championships. With a total of seven world championship golds under her belt, she is a force to be reckoned with in the para-swimming world.

Despite her winning times in Manchester being slower than her record times, Yip’s focus was on securing a swimming slot for Singapore at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, which she successfully achieved with her 100m backstroke win earlier in the week. Her coach, Michael Massey, highlighted the strategic preparations made to ensure optimal performance for the upcoming Paralympic Games.

The Para Swimming World Championships featured 546 para swimmers from 67 nations competing for direct qualification slots for the Paris Paralympics. Yip’s outstanding performance has not only solidified her status as a world-class athlete but has also secured Singapore two slots for next year’s Games, alongside para archer Nur Syahidah Alim.

As Yip sets her sights on Paris 2024, her dedication and determination serve as an inspiration to athletes worldwide. Stay updated on her journey by following Yahoo Singapore on social media platforms.
