14-Year-Old Chess Prodigy Sina Movahed Wins Freestyle Friday Tournament

Iranian chess prodigy, Sina Movahed, made headlines on April 25 by winning Freestyle Friday, a prestigious chess tournament on Chess.com. At just 14 years old, Movahed showcased his exceptional skills by outplaying seasoned grandmasters to claim victory.

Despite his young age, Movahed’s performance was nothing short of impressive. With only nine points needed for victory, he emerged as the champion after a fierce competition that saw him edging out GMs Sam Sevian and Magnus Carlsen on tiebreaks.

What makes Movahed’s win even more remarkable is his underrated rating of 1843, which made his earlier pairings more challenging. Despite a loss in round three to GM Gleb Dudin, Movahed bounced back and secured wins in almost every game, with draws against Sevian and Carlsen.

Sevian, who finished in second place, also put up a strong performance with only a few blemishes in the tournament. His final win against GM Fabiano Caruana solidified his position as the runner-up.

Notably, the women’s prize was awarded to WGM Valentina Golubenko, who showcased her skills and finished in 36th place overall.

Freestyle Friday is a weekly tournament on Chess.com that features Freestyle Chess for titled players. The competition is known for its intense gameplay and attracts top chess talents from around the world.

Congratulations to Sina Movahed on his well-deserved victory and for proving that age is just a number when it comes to mastering the game of chess!
