Excitement Builds for the 2026 US Chess National Elementary School Championships in Baltimore

Baltimore, MD – May 1-3, 2026 – This weekend, the vibrant city of Baltimore will host the highly anticipated US Chess National Elementary School Championships, bringing together some of the brightest young minds in the world of chess. With registration still open until 10:00 a.m. EDT on Friday, May 1, aspiring chess champions are encouraged to secure their spots for this thrilling event.

The championship promises an action-packed schedule filled with competitions, special guest appearances, and educational opportunities. Participants can look forward to engaging with renowned chess figures, including Grandmasters Elshan Moradiabadi and Katerina Nemcova, who will host “Take-on-all-Comers” Blitz sessions throughout the weekend. Players will have the chance to test their skills against these masters during multiple sessions, including a special 30-board tandem simul exhibition on Friday at 9 a.m.

In addition to the blitz sessions, attendees can benefit from Grandmaster lectures featuring insights and strategies from Moradiabadi and Nemcova. These sessions are designed to inspire and educate the next generation of chess players, with Q&A opportunities to delve deeper into the game.

The excitement doesn’t stop there! International Master Danny Rensch, the Chief Chess Officer of Chess.com, will also be on-site, offering lectures and signing copies of his new memoir, Dark Squares. Meanwhile, US Chess Ambassador WGM Jennifer Shahade will promote her book, Thinking Sideways, and host simul exhibitions throughout the weekend.

For female players and their families, the US Chess Girls Club room will feature special events, including lectures and exhibitions led by WFM Laura Smith and Rochelle Ballantyne. This initiative aims to foster a supportive environment for young female chess enthusiasts.

The championship will also include thrilling Blitz and Bughouse tournaments, where players can experience the fast-paced excitement of chess in a fun and competitive setting. Additionally, a Friends and Family Chess Tournament will be held on Saturday, allowing non-competitors to join in the fun.

For those unable to attend in person, the event will be broadcast live on Twitch, featuring expert commentary and analysis. Viewers can tune in starting at 1 p.m. EDT on Friday, with special guest commentator WGM Sabina Foisor providing insights into the top matches.
