Agusan del Sur is gearing up for an exciting week as it prepares to host the much-anticipated 2026 Palarong Pambansa, set to take place from May 24 to 31. With around 13,000 delegates expected to converge in the province, the event promises to be a grand celebration of sports and culture across one city and six municipalities.
The festivities will kick off with vibrant opening ceremonies on Sunday at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Governor D.O. Plaza Sports Complex in Prosperidad. Following the opening, the spotlight will shift to the Tribalympics on May 25, a unique event celebrating the rich indigenous heritage of the region at the Datu Lipus Makapandong Cultural Center.
As the games unfold, Monday will feature a series of demonstration and exhibition sports, including kickboxing, karatedo, and soft tennis, alongside muay thai, sitting volleyball, and para table tennis. The main competitions will commence from May 26 to 30, showcasing a wide array of athletic talent.
Bayugan City, the only city in Agusan del Sur, will host several key events, including badminton, elementary basketball, chess, taekwondo, wrestling, and wushu. Meanwhile, the Municipality of Prosperidad will be a hub for athletics, 3×3 basketball, secondary basketball, billiards, dancesport, football, rhythmic gymnastics, para games, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and weightlifting.
Other municipalities will also play vital roles in the games: Esperanza will host boxing, Talacogon will feature archery and secondary girls’ basketball, San Francisco will stage arnis, baseball, and futsal, while Rosario will host pencak silat competitions. Bunawan will showcase aerobic gymnastics and both men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics events.
All eyes will be on the National Capital Region (NCR), which has dominated the Palarong Pambansa in recent years. As the 18-time defending overall champion, NCR topped the last edition with an impressive 237 medals, including 117 golds. Region IV-A and Region VI followed closely, securing second and third places, respectively.
With the stage set for an exhilarating week of sportsmanship and camaraderie, Agusan del Sur is ready to make its mark as a host of the Palarong Pambansa, uniting athletes from across the nation in a celebration of talent and tradition.
