Nine-Year-Old English Chess Prodigy Breaks Record with Master Title and 2303 Rating
Nine-year-old chess prodigy Ethan Pang has made history by becoming the youngest player ever to earn the title of FIDE Master and break the official 2300 rating barrier. With a stellar rating of 2303, Pang is now the world’s top player in both the under-nine and under-10 age groups.
Pang’s achievement at such a young age has surpassed the record set by International Master Faustino Oro, who achieved the same rating but had to wait for his rating to be published by FIDE, making Pang the official record holder.
Throughout the year, Pang has been setting records and making waves in the chess world. In July, he became the youngest player to surpass 2200, earning the title of Candidate Master. In September, he defeated three grandmasters at a tournament in Budapest, showcasing his exceptional talent and skill.
Pang’s rapid rise in the chess world has been nothing short of extraordinary, gaining 100 rating points in just four months. His father, Raymond Pang, expressed pride in his son’s accomplishments, highlighting Ethan’s hard work and determination.
Malcolm Pein, the English Chess Federation’s Director of International Chess, praised Ethan’s achievements, calling him a star rolling off the production line of talented youngsters in English chess.
Ethan’s journey in chess serves as an inspiration to young players everywhere, showing the importance of perseverance and resilience in pursuing one’s goals. As he continues to grow and evolve through his experiences in chess, Ethan is poised to make a significant impact on the game and beyond.
