Get Ready for the Chess.com 4-Player Chess Championship: A Tactical Showdown Awaits!
April 6, 2026 – The excitement is building as the Chess.com 4-Player Chess Championship gears up to kick off with its qualifiers from April 6 to April 9. With a tantalizing $5,000 prize fund and the thrilling free-for-all format, this event promises to be a chess lover’s dream come true.
4-Player Chess, one of the oldest and most cherished variants in the chess community, invites four players to battle it out on an extended chessboard, each commanding their own army. In this chaotic free-for-all mode, players earn points by capturing enemy pieces—including kings! The player with the most points at the end of the round emerges victorious, making every move a potential game-changer.
The stakes are high, and the competition fierce. Players must navigate a battlefield of shifting alliances and unexpected attacks, all while keeping an eye on three opponents. Only the most cunning strategists will rise to the top in this high-octane format.
Qualifier Schedule:
The qualifiers will unfold over four days, featuring two sessions each day. Early qualifiers kick off at 11 a.m. ET / 17:00 CEST, while late qualifiers begin at 5 p.m. ET / 23:00 CEST. Each qualifier is a two-hour arena, and anyone can join by checking out the event schedule and clicking the Join button.
To ensure a fair playing environment, participants may need to join a video call and set up two cameras from different angles. Non-compliance will result in removal from the event, emphasizing the importance of integrity in this competitive arena.
The Road to the Finals:
The excitement continues on April 10, when the eight qualifier winners will advance to the Semifinals, split into two groups of four. Each group will engage in a 90-minute countdown match, with the top two players from each group moving on to the Final. The ultimate showdown will see the four finalists compete in a series of games, with the first player to reach 7 points claiming the coveted title.
Last year, Argentinian player Luis Ignacio captured the crown in a nail-biting final against CM Hamlet Antonyan, Aswin Devendran, and Jose Bolea. After a rocky start, Ignacio rallied with three consecutive wins, showcasing the resilience and skill needed to dominate in this variant.
