Gilbert Sixth-Grader Claims World Chess Title
Gilbert sixth-grader, Irene Fei, has made headlines once again as she claims another world chess title. Irene, who was introduced to chess by her parents in kindergarten and honed her skills in an after-school chess club, first made waves in the chess world at just 9 years old when she won a first-place world championship title in Panama City.
Now 11 years old and a sixth-grader at Gilbert Middle School, Irene recently secured another victory in the Girls Under 13 division at the Pan American Youth Chess Championship in Paraguay. Not only is she a two-time world chess champion, but she has also earned the distinction of becoming the youngest Woman International Chess Federation Master in the Americas.
With her impressive accomplishments at such a young age, Irene Fei is definitely a name to watch in the world of chess. Congratulations to this talented young student from Gilbert!
