GM Pia Cramling Takes the Lead in Battle of Generations Against IM Levy Rozman

GM Pia Cramling has taken an early lead in the Battle of Generations match against IM Levy Rozman, winning the first classical game in a thrilling encounter. Rozman had the advantage with the white pieces but spent too much time on a critical move, allowing Cramling to equalize and eventually win the game.

The match, which consists of 22 games in total, started on Monday and will conclude on Saturday. The players will compete in different time controls, with the first four games played at the classical time control of 90+30. The second classical game will take place on Tuesday, October 29, with Cramling having the white pieces.

In the first game, Rozman opted for the London System with the white pieces, while Cramling went for an active plan to counter the isolated pawn. Despite gaining a tangible advantage in the middle game, Rozman’s time management proved to be his downfall as he allowed Cramling to seize the initiative and eventually win a pawn.

Both players showed resilience and fighting spirit throughout the game, with Rozman setting up tricky tactics with his knight in an attempt to salvage a draw. However, Cramling remained in control and secured the victory in the endgame.

With three classical games remaining, Rozman will have to regroup and come back stronger in the next round with the black pieces. Can he turn the tide and level the score against the experienced grandmaster?

Chess fans can follow the Battle of Generations match between Cramling and Rozman at the Svarta Hasten in Stockholm, Sweden. The prize fund for the event is $10,000, with $6,000 going to the winner. Don’t miss the action as these two players battle it out across different time controls to determine the ultimate champion.
