Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi Wins Titled Tuesday Blitz Competition, Beats Carlsen and Caruana

Indian grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi made headlines on Tuesday as he emerged victorious in the early Titled Tuesday weekly blitz competition conducted by Chess.com. The 21-year-old prodigy showcased his exceptional skills by defeating the World No 1 Magnus Carlsen and World No 2 Fabiano Caruana.

Erigaisi finished with an impressive 10 points from 11 rounds, securing wins against Carlsen and Caruana in the final rounds of the competition. Despite a setback against American grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura in round seven, Erigaisi’s stellar performance solidified his position as the fourth-ranked player in the world.

Notably, World Chess Champion D Gukesh did not participate in the event, which saw over 900 titled players competing online. All participants were required to be available for Zoom calls to ensure fair play during the tournament.

Arjun Erigaisi, hailing from Telangana’s Warangal, has had a remarkable journey in the world of chess. Having dropped out of college to focus on his chess career, Erigaisi has achieved significant milestones, including winning the Tata Steel Chess 2022 Challengers and being crowned the Indian National Champion in 2022.

In addition to his recent victory in the Titled Tuesday competition, Erigaisi has clinched titles in various prestigious tournaments, such as the Abu Dhabi International Chess Festival and Tata Steel Chess India Blitz. His consistent success in 2024 further solidifies his reputation as a formidable force in the world of chess.
