Magnus Carlsen’s Prediction Comes True: D Gukesh’s Freestyle Chess Struggles Continue

Magnus Carlsen’s predictions proved to be spot on as D Gukesh’s struggles in Freestyle Chess continued in Paris. The India No. 1 had a disappointing showing, finishing joint-11th with Vidit Gujrathi, while Arjun Erigaisi impressed with a fifth-place finish.

Carlsen had foreseen Gukesh’s difficulties in qualifying for the knockout round, and his predictions came true. He also correctly labeled Erigaisi as a tough competitor, who ultimately beat the Norwegian in Round 2.

Despite losing to Erigaisi, Carlsen went on to win the event, defeating Hikaru Nakamura in the final. Erigaisi took home USD 50,000 and expressed his joy at the tournament, calling it one of the most fun he has had in years.

Gukesh, on the other hand, had a winless run in Weissenhaus but improved in the Grand Slam event, finishing in eighth place. Carlsen’s insights into the players’ performances added an extra layer of excitement to the competition, proving once again why he is considered one of the greatest chess minds of our time.
