Indian prodigy Praggnanandhaa defeats world number two Caruana at Norway Chess tournament

Indian chess prodigy R Praggnanandhaa made headlines once again as he defeated world number two Fabiano Caruana in the fifth round of the Norway Chess tournament at Stavanger on Saturday night. This victory not only marked a significant win for Praggnanandhaa but also propelled him into the top ten of the FIDE World Rankings.

Just a round earlier, Praggnanandhaa had suffered a setback by losing to America’s Hikaru Nakamura, halting his momentum after defeating the World No 1 Magnus Carlsen for the first time in a classical game. However, his impressive performance against Caruana showcased his talent and determination on the international stage.

In another exciting development, Praggnanandhaa’s sister, R Vaishali, extended her lead in the tournament by checkmating Lei Tingjie of China in an Armageddon tie-breaker. Vaishali has been in top form, earning 10 points so far and leading the pack in the Norway Chess Women’s Tournament.

Meanwhile, in the Norway Chess main event, Nakamura emerged victorious over World Champion Ding Liren, solidifying his position in the tournament. Magnus Carlsen also secured a win over Alireza Firouzja, putting him just a point behind Nakamura in the standings.

As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on the young Indian sensation Praggnanandhaa as he continues to make waves in the chess world. With exciting matchups ahead, including a clash between Carlsen and Ding Liren, the competition is heating up in Stavanger.

Stay tuned for more updates on the Norway Chess tournament as the world’s top chess players battle it out for supremacy on the board.
