The Return of Banter Blitz: Chess24’s Flagship Show Makes a Comeback on Chess.com

Chess fans rejoice as Banter Blitz makes a triumphant return to the chess scene! The beloved series, which was thought to have disappeared when Chess.com took over Chess24, is back with a bang.

Chess.com has announced the revival of Banter Blitz, the show that captured the hearts of fans with its mix of humor and insight from top chess stars. The show, which featured iconic moments where fans got to play against their heroes, will now have a new home on Chess.com’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

The cult following of Banter Blitz was centered around the wit and wisdom of Chess24 legends like GM Jan Gustafsson, GM Peter Svidler, GM Pepe Cuenca, and GM Peter Leko. Fans of the original series will be delighted to know that Banter Blitz will feature familiar faces from Chess.com, including IM Danny Rensch and GM Robert Hess.

For those unfamiliar with the format, Banter Blitz events require players to live stream and commentate on their moves during the game. Hosts select opponents from a pool of players and engage in battles both on the board and in their commentary.

One of the most memorable moments in Banter Blitz history was when 16-year-old GM Alireza Firouzja defeated world number-one Magnus Carlsen in the 2020 Banter Blitz Cup. The victory made headlines globally and solidified Firouzja as a rising star in the chess world.

GM Jan Gustafsson, a staple of the original Banter Blitz series, will host the first of the new generation of events on May 15. Fans can tune in to Chess.com’s YouTube and Twitch channels to catch all the action.

The return of Banter Blitz is sure to bring excitement and entertainment to chess fans worldwide. Don’t miss out on the fun and be sure to mark your calendars for the upcoming events!
