2024 FIDE World Championship Game 9 Preview: Ding Liren vs Gukesh Dommaraju

The highly anticipated 2024 FIDE World Championship between defending World Champion Ding Liren and Challenger Gukesh Dommaraju is heating up as the score remains level at 4-4. The next game, Game 9, is set to take place on Thursday, December 5, at 4:00 a.m. ET / 10:00 CET / 2:30 p.m. IST / 5:00 p.m. local time in Singapore.

In the previous game, both players had their chances to secure a win, but ultimately the game ended in a draw. Gukesh will have the white pieces in Game 9 as he looks to break the deadlock and take the lead in the match.

The 2024 FIDE World Championship is a 14-game match, with the first player to reach 7.5 points declared the winner. The players have a time control of two hours for 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to finish the game, with a 30-second increment added per move from move 41 onwards. The prize fund for the championship is $2,500,000, with $200,000 awarded for a win and the remaining amount split equally between the players.
