The Sharjah International Chess Championship is heating up as Iranian Daneshvar Pradia, American Sam Shackland, and Russian Morzin Volodar are leading the Masters category with 6 points each. In a thrilling eighth round, UAE national team and Sharjah Club player Salem Abdul Rahman secured a crucial victory against his Czech opponent, Engwin Tai.

The competition is fierce as the top players battle it out for the championship title. With 7 players closely following the leaders with 5.5 points each, including Salem Abdel Rahman, the final rounds promise to be intense.

In the Challenge Championship for players ranked under 2,500 points, there were some exciting matches as well. Indian leader Divya Deshmukh drew with Russian Vladimir Burmakin, while Indian Nitish Belorkar suffered a loss to Russian Leah Garifullina. Top seeded Indian Arjun Eregaisi also drew with Serbia’s Alexei Sarana, showcasing the high level of competition in the tournament.
