Abhishek Sharma’s Participation in Doubt for T20 World Cup Clash Against Namibia

New Delhi, Feb 11, 2026 — India’s cricketing hopes hang in the balance as opener Abhishek Sharma battles a stomach bug ahead of the crucial T20 World Cup group-stage match against Namibia on Thursday. After undergoing examinations upon arrival in New Delhi, Sharma has been discharged from the hospital, but his availability for the match remains uncertain.

The left-handed batsman has been struggling with an upset stomach and viral fever, leading to his absence from the team’s training session at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday. Teammate Tilak Varma provided an update on Sharma’s condition, stating, “When we reached Delhi, Abhishek needed examinations. So all that went fine; he has been discharged from the hospital today. We have got one more day left before the game tomorrow, so we will decide by tomorrow, check how he feels, and then take a call.”

In more positive news for the Indian squad, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the opening match against the USA in Mumbai, has been declared fit to play. Bumrah showcased his readiness during practice sessions earlier this week, bowling at full tilt and looking sharp.

The Indian team is coming off a tense victory against the USA, where they found themselves in a precarious position at 77 for 6. However, captain Suryakumar Yadav’s remarkable unbeaten 84 helped steer the team to safety. Varma praised Yadav’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of players stepping up in critical moments. “This is the biggest asset of this team,” he remarked. “We have not lost all these previous bilateral series because someone or the other is always taking responsibility. This time, it was a masterclass innings by Surya bhai. If it keeps going like this, in pressure games and knockout games, we will be able to win the World Cup.”

As the team prepares for the match against Namibia, all eyes will be on Sharma’s recovery and Bumrah’s return to the lineup. With the stakes high in the T20 World Cup, fans and players alike are hopeful for a strong performance from the Indian squad in the capital.
