India’s Chess Olympiad Winning Teams Rewarded with Rs 3.2 Crore by AICF

India Makes History with Maiden Gold Medals at 45th Chess Olympiad

The All India Chess Federation celebrated a historic victory as the Indian teams clinched their first-ever gold medals at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary. The felicitation ceremony saw the announcement of a generous reward of Rs 3.2 crore for the winning teams.

AICF president Nitin Narang commended the players for their outstanding performance, announcing a reward of Rs 25 lakh for each player and Rs 15 lakh for the coaches of the men’s and women’s teams. Grandmaster Dibyendu Barua and the assistant coaches were also recognized with monetary rewards.

The triumph at the Olympiad marked a significant milestone for Indian chess, with both the men’s and women’s teams securing gold medals. The men’s team, led by D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, and R Praggnanandhaa, displayed dominance throughout the tournament, while the women’s team, led by D Harika, Tania Sachdev, and R Vaishali, secured their victory in a tense final.

AICF secretary general Dev A Patel expressed his excitement over the historic achievement, stating that the twin gold medals would inspire a new generation of chess players in India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his congratulations to the champions, recognizing their dedication and impact on Indian sports.

The success at the 45th Chess Olympiad not only brought glory to the Indian teams but also highlighted the growing talent and potential in the country’s chess community. The historic win is set to ignite a new era of chess excellence in India, paving the way for future generations of players to shine on the international stage.
