Qatar Chess Association President Mohammed Al Mudahka Appointed Vice President of Gulf Chess Federation
Tribune News Network, Doha — In a significant development for the chess community in the Gulf region, Mohammed Al Mudahka, President of the Qatar Chess Association, has been appointed Vice President of the Gulf Chess Federation for the 2026-27 term. This decision was made in accordance with established procedures and regulations, following the minutes of the General Assembly meeting held last December.
The Gulf Chess Federation convened for its first meeting via video conference, where members discussed crucial updates regarding the preparation of unified statutes for Gulf sports federations. This initiative aims to streamline operations and enhance collaboration among member nations.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the approval of the 2026 Gulf Individual Junior Classic Championship, set to take place in the Emirate of Ajman from July 3 to 9. This championship will feature both male and female categories and is part of the federation’s broader strategy to develop age-group competitions and reward young talent with prizes. The timing of the event coincides with the end of the academic year in GCC countries, which is expected to boost participation and elevate the competitive spirit among young players.
Ahmed Al Raisi, President of the Gulf Chess Federation, expressed his enthusiasm for the current Board of Directors, emphasizing the importance of their expertise in advancing chess within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. “This upcoming phase requires intensified teamwork and a focus on developing high-quality programs and initiatives to enhance the standing of chess in the Gulf at both regional and international levels,” he stated.
During the meeting, a quorum of seven members was reached, allowing the Secretary General to lead discussions on various strategic topics related to the development of chess across the GCC. Among the proposals discussed was the organization of another Gulf championship in November in Oman, pending coordination with relevant authorities to finalize the necessary procedures.
As the meeting concluded, the council recommended several executive measures, including the completion of the presentation of the amended basic system and details of the junior championship. Additionally, the formation of the union’s standing committees for the current session was prioritized to ensure efficient institutional work and the achievement of the federation’s strategic goals.
With Al Mudahka’s leadership and the collective efforts of the Gulf Chess Federation, the future of chess in the region looks promising, paving the way for a new era of growth and excellence in the sport.
