Deadly Shooting in Northeast Albuquerque Leads to Arrest of Brother
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A tragic confrontation between two brothers ended in violence Thursday evening, resulting in the death of one and the arrest of the other in northeast Albuquerque.
Albuquerque police responded to reports of a shooting on Palo Verde Drive NE, near the intersection of Candelaria Road and Tramway Boulevard, around 7 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered 54-year-old Adam Chess with gunshot wounds inside an apartment. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Authorities quickly apprehended 55-year-old Benjamin Chess, who was found leaving the apartment. According to police, Benjamin admitted to shooting his brother during a heated argument. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang following a dispute between the siblings, which escalated to violence.
Detectives later recovered a bullet casing from a trash bag and located the rifle believed to be used in the shooting. In his statement to police, Benjamin claimed he was overwhelmed by the sound of his brother pounding on the door before the incident occurred.
Benjamin Chess has been charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence. He is currently being held at the Metro Detention Center.
Fortunately, the shooting did not disrupt traffic in the area, and police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
