Excitement Builds for the 17th Continental Women’s Chess Championship of the Americas 2026

Lima, Peru — The stage is set for the 17th Continental Women’s Chess Championship of the Americas, scheduled to take place from March 30 to April 6, 2026, at the luxurious Delfines Hotel & Convention Center in San Isidro, Lima. Organized by the Chess Confederation of the Americas and the Peruvian Sports Chess Federation (FDPA), this prestigious event invites female chess players from across the American continent to compete for glory and a chance to qualify for the FIDE World Cup.

This nine-round tournament will feature a time control of Game 90 with a 30-second increment starting from move one, ensuring thrilling and strategic gameplay. With a total prize fund of $8,000, the top ten finishers will be rewarded for their exceptional skills on the chessboard.

Official Players and Registration Details

The United States Chess Federation (US Chess) will nominate three official players who will receive complimentary accommodation (shared double room) and full meals from March 30 dinner until April 6 breakfast. To be eligible, players must register by February 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Central Time. The top three USA players, based on the February 2026 FIDE Standard Rating List, who meet the registration deadline and pay their entry fee by February 23, 2026, will secure their spots.

The registration fee for all players is set at $200, accompanied by a non-refundable administrative fee of $300. Interested participants must submit their registrations through their national federations, as individual registrations are not permitted.

Accommodation and Travel Considerations

Participants are encouraged to stay at the official hotel, with room rates starting at $120 per night for a double room. Players opting for off-site accommodations will incur a $200 penalty, as stipulated in the event regulations.

While US Chess will facilitate the registration process, players are reminded to assume all risks associated with international travel. A waiver document outlining these responsibilities is available for review.

A Call to Action for Aspiring Champions

As the countdown to this exciting event begins, chess enthusiasts and aspiring champions are urged to prepare for a week of intense competition and camaraderie. The Continental Women’s Chess Championship promises not only to showcase the talents of female chess players but also to foster a spirit of unity and sportsmanship across the Americas.
