Nine-Year-Old Anvi Hinge Becomes Youngest Women’s Candidate Master, Making Waves in Chess
Mumbai, India – At just nine years old, Anvi Hinge is not your typical child. While many kids her age are busy playing with toys, Anvi is busy making history on the global chess stage. Recently crowned the World No. 1 in her age category, she has achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the youngest-ever Women’s Candidate Master (WCM) following a stunning tournament in Spain, where she gained nearly 200 Elo rating points.
In an exclusive interview with Revsportz, Anvi’s family shared insights into her extraordinary journey, discipline, and aspirations for the future. “Anvi started playing chess at around four-and-a-half years old after watching her elder brother, Aarush, play,” they revealed. “When she turned five, we enrolled her in a chess academy, and that’s when her passion truly ignited.”
Balancing academics with competitive chess has been a challenging endeavor, but Anvi’s family credits her discipline for her success. “Even while traveling for tournaments, Anvi studies regularly. Chess has significantly improved her concentration and time management skills,” they noted. They also expressed gratitude towards Elpro International School for their unwavering support, allowing her to take leave for tournaments and rescheduling missed examinations.
Reflecting on her recent WCM title, Anvi’s family shared, “She was determined to become WCM as early as possible, and now she holds the title as the youngest in the world. Her dream is to become the youngest World Champion ever.”
On the international chess circuit, Anvi thrives on the challenge of competing against formidable opponents. “Every opponent is tough, but she loves the challenge because each game helps her improve. She doesn’t view anyone as a rival; her focus is on learning and representing India proudly,” her family explained. Anvi looks up to chess icons like Divya Deshmukh and D Gukesh, drawing inspiration from their journeys.
Resilience is a key lesson her family emphasizes, especially after defeats. “We always encourage her to learn from every game, whether she wins or loses,” they said. “Every night, we read stories about great leaders like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Bajirao Peshwa to help build her strength and character.”
With remarkable achievements already under her belt, Anvi Hinge’s journey is just beginning. Supported by a loving family and a relentless desire to improve, this young prodigy is poised to make even greater strides in the world of chess.
