The decision was made during the Annual General Body Meeting held at the Citrus Hotel in Wasakaduwa, Sri Lanka, on Sunday, marking a pivotal moment in the growth and development of chess across the Commonwealth.

Chauhan’s re-election underscores the confidence that member nations have in his vision and commitment to promoting chess over the past five decades. His tenure has been characterized by initiatives aimed at enhancing the sport’s reach and accessibility, making chess a more integral part of educational and cultural frameworks in various countries.

New Office-Bearers Elected

The meeting also saw the election of several key office-bearers. Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidsh Sanusi from Malaysia was elected unopposed as Deputy Chairman, while G. Additionally, Hurrynarain Bhowany of Mauritius, Allan Herbert of Barbados, Benard Wanjala of Kenya, Craig Hall of New Zealand, and Crition Tornaritis of Cyprus were elected unopposed as Executive Members of the Association.

The election process was overseen by Hon’ble Santiago Pushpa Kumara Ekaratne, a retired judge of the High Court, who served as the Returning Officer, ensuring a fair and transparent election.

New Championship Announced

In an exciting development, the CCA announced the introduction of the Commonwealth School Chess Championship, with the inaugural edition set to take place in Malaysia in October 2026. This initiative aims to foster young talent and promote chess at the grassroots level, further solidifying the CCA’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of chess players.
