Renato Terry Makes History with First Chess.com Titled Arena Trifecta at Bullet Brawl
Peruvian IM Renato Terry Makes History with Bullet Brawl Victory
In a stunning display of skill and strategy, Peruvian International Master Renato Terry has etched his name in chess history by achieving the first-ever titled arena trifecta on Chess.com. Terry triumphed in Saturday’s Bullet Brawl, amassing an impressive 156 points and outpacing formidable opponents, including Grandmasters Arjun Erigaisi, Faustino Oro, and Emin Ohanyan.
Terry’s victory not only secured him the top prize of $400 but also solidified his status as a dominant force in the world of online chess. His performance was nothing short of remarkable, as he built a staggering 19-game unbeaten streak, defeating 11 players with bullet ratings exceeding 3000.
The competition was fierce, with Erigaisi, Oro, and Ohanyan finishing in second to fourth place, earning $250, $150, and $100, respectively. Vietnamese Woman FIDE Master Hoang Minh Tho Do also shone brightly, finishing 18th overall and claiming the $100 best women’s prize.
A Journey to Victory
Terry entered the Bullet Brawl with momentum, having already won both the 3 0 Thursday and Freestyle Friday earlier in the week. However, the path to victory was fraught with challenges, as he faced a lineup of elite competitors, including GMs Tuan Minh Le and a trio of Iranian powerhouses.
Le started strong, achieving a remarkable 13/14 in the first quarter of the arena. However, as the competition progressed, his momentum slowed, particularly during a series of draws against Terry and Erigaisi. Meanwhile, Terry capitalized on his opponents’ missteps, employing clever tactics such as the fishing pole trap against CM Nika Volkov, which led to a swift victory.
The Final Showdown
As the tournament neared its conclusion, Terry’s lead remained unchallenged despite a few dropped points in the final quarter. His decisive victories over Erigaisi, including a dramatic match where he turned the tables with just six seconds left on the clock, were pivotal in securing his win.
With this victory, Terry has now become the only International Master to win two editions of Bullet Brawl, further establishing his reputation in the chess community.
Looking Ahead
The next edition of Bullet Brawl is set to take place on Saturday, April 11, at 12 p.m. ET/18:00 CET, promising another thrilling showdown among the world’s top bullet specialists. As the chess community eagerly anticipates the next round, all eyes will be on Terry to see if he can continue his remarkable streak.
