Get Ready for the Thrill: The 2026 Bullet Chess Championship is Here!
Speed Meets Strategy: The Bullet Chess Championship Returns
Calling all speed addicts! The world’s fastest chess players are gearing up for an electrifying showdown at the Bullet Chess Championship, set to kick off on June 22. With a staggering $50,000 prize fund and a roster packed with the most formidable bullet players globally, this event promises drama and excitement at every turn.
Since its inception in 2019, the Bullet Chess Championship has become a cornerstone of Chess.com’s offerings, attracting elite players who thrive under pressure. This year, the championship will feature eight invited players alongside eight qualified contenders, ensuring a thrilling mix of established stars and rising talents.
The Road to Glory
The action begins on June 22 with the Play-Ins, where any titled player can compete in a series of 60-minute arenas. Throughout the day, eight arenas will unfold, with the winners earning their spots in the Playoffs, a double-elimination knockout tournament set to take place from June 24 to 27.
Leading the charge is the reigning champion, GM Alireza Firouzja. The French chess prodigy has dominated the event, clinching victory in the last two editions. With three titles under his belt, Firouzja is on the hunt for a fourth, which would tie him with GM Hikaru Nakamura for the most championships in the event’s history.
Rising Stars and Veteran Challengers
Challenging Firouzja’s reign are two formidable players from India: GMs Arjun Erigaisi and Nihal Sarin. Both are well-known on Chess.com’s bullet leaderboard and are poised to make a serious run at the title. Their speed and skill make them serious threats to the champion.
Another player to keep an eye on is GM Oleksandr Bortnyk, a speed chess specialist with a reputation for excellence in events like Titled Tuesday and Freestyle Friday. After reaching the finals in both 2019 and 2025, Bortnyk is eager for redemption after being eliminated by Firouzja in last year’s Grand Final.
The competition will also feature GM Denis Lazavik, a 19-year-old rising star, and GM Sam Sevian, one of the most decorated young American players in chess history. Lazavik has quickly established himself as a dangerous speed chess competitor, while Sevian, a Bullet Brawl champion, is ready to prove himself on a larger stage.
