Magnus Carlsen Advances to Speed Chess Championship 2024 Semifinals

Magnus Carlsen has secured his spot in the Speed Chess Championship 2024 Semifinals after defeating Arjun Erigaisi with a score of 12-9. The victory was predicted by SmarterChess, giving Carlsen a 64 percent chance of winning. Despite taking his foot off the gas in the bullet segment, Carlsen managed to maintain his lead throughout the match.

In the upcoming Semifinals, Carlsen will face off against Hans Niemann, marking their first in-person game since 2022. The last quarterfinal match will feature Hikaru Nakamura against Ian Nepomniachtchi on Friday, August 9.

Carlsen’s performance in the Blitz and Bullet segments showcased his strategic prowess and endgame skills, ultimately earning him the victory. Despite feeling unwell and experiencing a sleepless night before the match, Carlsen expressed confidence in his upcoming match against Niemann.

The Speed Chess Championship, hosted by Chess.com, features some of the top players in the world competing in speed chess matches.
