Excitement Builds as Argentina Competes in the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest

Five Argentine chess players are gearing up to compete in the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary, where they will face off against some of the best players from around the world. The tournament, which kicks off this Wednesday, is a biennial team event that attracts top talent and promises intense competition.

The Argentine team, seeded 33rd in the absolute tournament, includes seasoned grandmasters like Fernando Peralta and Rubén Felgaer, as well as up-and-coming players like Tomás Sosa. The team will be led by American GM Robert Hungaski as they aim to improve on their 33rd place finish in the previous Olympiad in Chennai, India.

On the women’s side, Argentina is ranked 26th and will be represented by a strong lineup that includes world junior champion Candela Francisco Guecamburu and veteran player Claudia Amura, who is competing in her eleventh Olympiad. The team will be captained by IM Sebastián Iermito as they look to climb up the rankings from their 34th place finish in the last Olympiad.

Joining the national delegation is Faustino Oro, a 10-year-old prodigy who is the youngest international master in history. Oro will have the opportunity to participate in preparation sessions and gain valuable experience from being a part of the Olympiad.

The tournament, which will feature eleven rounds of intense competition, will not include Russian or Belarusian players due to international sporting sanctions. However, fans can expect to see top players like Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, and Ding Liren battling it out for victory.

The first round of the Chess Olympiad will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. in Argentina and can be followed live on various platforms, including Chess.com, Lichess, and FIDE YouTube channels. Chess enthusiasts can tune in to watch the action unfold and witness the excitement of this prestigious event.
