Urgent Recall: Magnetic Chess Games Pose Serious Safety Risks

Date: April 23, 2026

In a critical safety alert, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning regarding Magnetic Chess Games sold by the company Kaiwenshangpin. Consumers are urged to stop using these games immediately due to hazardous magnets that exceed safety standards, posing a significant risk of injury or even death, particularly to children.

The CPSC’s investigation revealed that the magnets in these chess games are not only stronger than permitted but also fit within the agency’s small parts cylinder. This means they can easily be ingested, leading to potentially life-threatening complications such as intestinal perforations, blockages, or blood poisoning.

What You Need to Know

  • Product Name: Magnetic Chess Games
  • Seller: Kaiwenshangpin (also known as Yiwu Xiu Xiang Garment Co., Ltd.)
  • Sold At: Amazon.com from August 2025 to November 2025 for approximately $13.
  • Hazard: Magnets that are small, loose, and separable, with a strong magnetic flux.

The games come in a blue box labeled with “Magnetic,” “Magnetic Chess Piece,” and “Intelligence Strategy Game.” Each set includes 20 loose magnets, a yellow string, gameplay instructions, and a plastic storage bag.

Consumer Action Required

The CPSC strongly advises consumers to dispose of these magnetic chess games immediately and refrain from selling or giving them away. The agency has also issued a Notice of Violation to the seller for failing to comply with agreed-upon remedies for consumers affected by the previous recall.
