Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) has officially announced that chess will be one of the 16 titles featured at the inaugural Esports Nations Cup 2026 (ENC), set to take place in Riyadh from November 2 to 29, 2026. This groundbreaking tournament will showcase 128 players from various nations, competing in a rapid format designed to elevate chess as a major player in the esports arena.

Tournament Format and Schedule
The chess tournament will kick off on November 2, culminating in a thrilling playoff final on November 8. The competition will begin with a round-robin group stage featuring 128 players divided into 16 groups of eight. The top four players from each group will advance to the knockout stage, which will consist of a single-elimination playoff bracket.
- Match Format: All group stage matches will be best-of-two, while the Round of 64 and Round of 32 will also follow the best-of-two format. Quarterfinals and beyond will be best-of-four, with Armageddon games serving as tie-breakers.
- Time Control: The event will utilize a Rapid 10+0 time control format, ensuring fast-paced and engaging matches.
Qualification and Ranking
The tournament will feature a diverse pool of competitors, with 64 players directly invited based on the official Champions Chess Tour (CCT) rankings. An additional 56 players will qualify through regional qualifiers, and 8 players will be selected via Wildcard slots. Each nation can have up to two representatives, fostering a spirit of national pride and competition.
Regional qualifiers will take place on June 6-7 and June 13-14, 2026, across various regions, including North America, South America, Africa, and Europe, among others.
