Great Yarmouth Chess Congress Kicks Off with Exhibition Match by Local Student

Local chess prodigy, Dan Joal Allwin Christopher, made headlines as he faced off against tournament director John Wickham in an exhibition game to kick off the Great Yarmouth Chess Congress. The event, sponsored by the newly built Eversley Lodge Nursing Home, is set to attract over 100 players from across the country on April 26 and 27 at the Racecourse in Great Yarmouth.

Mr. Wickham, an International Chess Federation arbiter, expressed gratitude for the support from sponsors like Bodo Ltd, Great Yarmouth Town Centre Partnership, and Patrick McDermott, as well as the main sponsor, Eversley Lodge Nursing Home. He noted the growing interest in chess and highlighted the participation of leading International Master, Alan Merry, from Bury St Edmunds.
