RCB Shifts Home Matches to Raipur for IPL 2026: A Focus on Safety and New Opportunities
RCB Shifts Home Matches to Raipur Amid Safety Upgrades
In a significant development for IPL 2026, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have announced a change to their home schedule, with two of their matches set to take place in Raipur. This decision comes in the wake of infrastructure upgrades at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, aimed at enhancing safety following the tragic stampede during RCB’s title celebrations in 2025.
The defending champions will host high-profile clashes against the Mumbai Indians on May 10 and the Kolkata Knight Riders on May 13, both scheduled for 7:30 PM IST at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium. While Bengaluru remains RCB’s primary home base, the team will continue to play five matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium, including their much-anticipated opener against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28.
The decision to host matches in Raipur is part of RCB’s innovative second-home strategy, allowing the franchise to address logistical and safety concerns while expanding their fanbase. The move not only provides an opportunity for Raipur to host marquee IPL games but also ensures that RCB maintains a strong connection with its loyal supporters in Bengaluru.
In response to the tragic events of last season, the Chinnaswamy Stadium has undergone significant upgrades, improving crowd management with expanded entrance and exit points. In a poignant tribute, 11 seats will be permanently reserved in memory of the fans who lost their lives during the 2025 celebration.
While the shift may not be ideal for all fans, RCB’s commitment to safety is paramount. The franchise’s proactive measures reflect a responsible approach to ensuring that such incidents do not recur. Moreover, the inclusion of Raipur as a host city adds a fresh dimension to IPL 2026, allowing new fans to experience the thrill of top-tier cricket.
As the season approaches, RCB fans can look forward to an exciting lineup of matches, both in Bengaluru and Raipur, as the champions aim to defend their title with style and safety at the forefront.
