Woodlands Checkpoint to Undergo Massive Expansion and Redevelopment by 2032

The Woodlands Checkpoint in Singapore is set to undergo a massive expansion, growing to five times its current size with construction scheduled to begin in 2025. The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) outlined a redevelopment plan that includes land reclamation and the integration of the Old Woodlands Checkpoint into the extension, expected to be fully operational by 2032.

Despite the extensive expansion work, the ICA assured that checkpoint operations will not be disrupted. The redevelopment initiative aims to provide a more sustainable and long-term solution to the congestion seen at the Woodlands Checkpoint, with traveller volumes already returning to pre-COVID-19 levels.

The fully redeveloped Woodlands Checkpoint aims to reduce average clearance times during peak periods from 60 minutes to 15 minutes across all vehicle types. The ICA plans to incorporate more automation and provide holding areas for vehicles within the checkpoint to minimize congestion on surrounding roads.

The redevelopment project has received support from Malaysian authorities, with plans to streamline the flow for both Malaysian workers commuting to Singapore and Singaporeans visiting Johor. The project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion and improve the overall travel experience for commuters.
