FIDE Circuit 2026-27: A New Era of Chess Competition

Press Release by FIDE

The chess world is abuzz following the recent conclusion of the FIDE Candidates and the European Individual Championship, which have dramatically reshaped the landscape of the FIDE Circuit for the 2026-27 season.

Leading the charge is Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who, despite not having played classical chess since early March, has managed to maintain his lead in the standings. However, the pressure is mounting as Javokhir Sindarov closes in, trailing Abdusattorov by a mere 2.75 points after his impressive victory in Cyprus. The excitement doesn’t stop there; the FIDE Candidates tournament saw Anish Giri and Fabiano Caruana finish as runner-up and third-place respectively, both of whom have now secured spots in the Circuit’s top 10 alongside Wei Yi.

In a thrilling turn of events, Roman Dehtiarov, an 18-year-old prodigy from Ukraine, stunned the chess community by clinching the title at the European Individual Chess Championship. This remarkable achievement has propelled him to 7th place in the circuit race, showcasing the emergence of new talent in the competitive arena. Aydin Suleymanli, who secured the bronze medal in the same championship, also made significant strides, earning 10.09 points to round out the top 10.

The women’s circuit has seen equally significant shifts. Following her triumph in the FIDE Women’s Candidates, Vaishali Rameshbabu has surged to the top of the standings, with fellow competitors Bibisara Assaubayeva, Zhu Jiner, Aleksandra Goryachkina, and Anna Muzychuk closely trailing her.

Ulviyya Fataliyeva made headlines with her victory at the IV International Women’s Tournament in Uzbekistan, earning 15.37 circuit points and climbing to fifth place. Her performance, along with that of runner-up Nana Dzagnidze, who also broke into the top 10, highlights the fierce competition among female players.

As the chess community eagerly anticipates the upcoming tournaments, FIDE continues to provide comprehensive resources on its website, featuring the latest information on eligible tournaments, current standings, and regulations for the 2026-27 Circuit.

With the stakes higher than ever and new talents emerging, the FIDE Circuit promises to deliver thrilling matches and unforgettable moments in the world of chess. Stay tuned as the competition unfolds!
