Leaders Tied After Day Two at 2024 Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz Tournament

The 2024 Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz tournament is heating up as three players are now tied for the lead after day two. GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave started strong on day one but was caught by GMs Alireza Firouzja and Ian Nepomniachtchi after three winless rounds. Firouzja, in particular, had a standout performance, winning two games against strong opponents.

Nepomniachtchi also had a strong showing, winning the only decisive game of round five with his quick pace of play. Meanwhile, GM Fabiano Caruana made a recovery after a rough day one, drawing against Vachier-Lagrave and then winning against Praggnanandhaa in a thrilling endgame.

The tournament, which is part of the 2024 Grand Chess Tour, will continue with rounds seven through nine on Wednesday before moving on to two days of blitz. With the competition heating up and players like Firouzja, Nepomniachtchi, and Caruana in top form, the remaining rounds promise to be exciting and full of surprises.
