The Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour at Weissenhaus Private Nature Luxury Resort has reached its climax on Day 5, with some surprising results and standout performances.

Indian chess prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju, who has been struggling to find his form in the tournament, faced another setback as he remained winless after a 59-move stalemate against Hikaru Nakamura in the 5th-8th place classification match. Gukesh, the reigning world champion, has had a tough time in Weissenhaus after finishing as the runner-up at the Tata Steel Chess Tournament.

On the other hand, German chess sensation Vincent Keymer continued to impress by defeating world No 1 Magnus Carlsen in Game 1 of the semi-finals. Keymer has been flying the German flag high in the tournament and will be looking to continue his winning streak in the upcoming matches.

Despite Gukesh’s disappointing performance, he still has a chance to salvage his tournament by registering a win in the 5th-8th classification play off. The 18-year-old will be hoping to end his campaign on a positive note after a series of tough losses in the quarter-finals.
