Traffic Restrictions in Manpada Area: Heavy Congestion Expected from May 8 to 10

Thane, Maharashtra – Commuters in the Manpada area of Thane West should brace for significant traffic disruptions as authorities announce restrictions on one of the region’s busiest routes, Ghodbunder Road. From May 8 at 11:55 PM to May 10 at 6:00 AM, the installation of a steel girder for the ongoing Metro Line 4 project will lead to heavy congestion, prompting temporary diversions.

The Thane Traffic Police have issued a notification detailing the changes, warning that alternative routes, including Kolshet and Mullabaug, are likely to experience increased traffic as vehicles are rerouted. Ghodbunder Road is a crucial artery for heavy vehicles traveling from Gujarat to the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and Bhiwandi, as well as for daily commuters heading to Thane station from areas like Gaimukh and Kapurbawdi.

The ongoing construction work for Metro Line 4 (Wadala–Ghatkopar–Kasarvadavali) and Metro Line 4A (Kasarvadavali–Gaimukh) by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority has already narrowed several stretches of road, exacerbating congestion during peak hours. The situation is expected to worsen during the girder installation, particularly if vehicles break down or traffic volume surges.

Diversion Details:

  • From Ghodbunder towards Thane, Manpada, and Kapurbawdi: Vehicles will be diverted at Bramhand Signal via Kolshet-Dhokali through Azadnagar.

  • From Thane, Majiwada, and Kapurbawdi towards Ghodbunder: Traffic will be redirected from Manpada Chowk via Tikujiniwadi, Nilkanth Greens, and Mullabaug.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic, Pankaj Shirsat, has urged commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and consider alternative modes of transport during this period. The authorities are working diligently to minimize inconvenience, but heavy congestion is anticipated.

As the city continues to expand and develop its metro infrastructure, residents are reminded to stay informed about ongoing construction and traffic updates to navigate the changes effectively.
