Gukesh Dommaraju’s 2025 Chess Schedule: Facing Off Against Top Players
Gukesh Dommaraju, the youngest player in the history of chess to win the world championship, is gearing up for an exciting year ahead. The 18-year-old prodigy will be facing off against some of the biggest names in the chess world in 2025, including India’s Arjun Erigaisi, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, and his idol Viswanathan Anand.
The action-packed schedule for Gukesh kicks off with the Tata Steel Chess 2025 tournament from January 7 to February 2. Gukesh, a familiar face in the tournament, will be taking on Erigaisi and R Praggnanandhaa in this competition.
Next up is the Freestyle Chess Grandslam 2025 from February 7 to February 14, where Gukesh will be facing off against Anand and Carlsen in Germany, India, France, the USA, and South Africa. Gukesh, who debuted in the freestyle competition in 2024, is looking forward to the challenge.
Following that, Gukesh will have the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Norway Chess 2025 event from May 26 to June 6 in Stavanger. Alongside Wei Yi, Gukesh will once again go head-to-head with Carlsen and Arjun. Gukesh had finished third in the Norway Chess 2023 event, where he first started working with his current trainer Grzegorz Gajewski.
The partnership between Gukesh and Gajewski has proven to be incredibly successful, leading Gukesh to victory in the Candidates and ultimately becoming the youngest world champion in history.
