Indian Chess Team Dominates 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad, Clinches Gold in Both Men’s and Women’s Events

In a stunning display of skill and strategy, the Indian chess team emerged victorious in the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad, securing gold medals in both the men’s and women’s events. GMs Gukesh Dommaraju, Arjun Erigaisi, and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu led the men’s team to a resounding 3.5-0.5 win over Slovenia, finishing a remarkable four points ahead of their closest competitors.

The United States claimed the silver medal after GM Wesley So’s decisive win against China, while Uzbekistan secured the bronze with GM Shamsiddin Vokhidov’s stellar performance against France. China, Serbia, and Armenia narrowly missed out on the podium, showcasing the fierce competition at the Olympiad.

In the women’s event, Team India clinched gold for the first time, defeating Azerbaijan 3.5-0.5 in a commanding fashion. Kazakhstan, who were tied on match points with India, settled for silver after drawing their match with the U.S. team. The United States secured the bronze medal on tiebreaks, edging out Spain, Armenia, and Georgia.
