Sivakasi, Tamil Nadu – On a rainy Friday night, eight-year-old chess prodigy Tamizh Amudhan made headlines by defeating world No. 7 Vincent Keymer in the Freestyle Friday online blitz tournament, showcasing his extraordinary talent and determination.

Despite a power outage in his home, Tamizh remained unfazed, playing under the flickering light of a candle with his laptop precariously balanced on a pillow. The young chess enthusiast, who hails from Kallakurichi, Tamil Nadu, faced Keymer with remarkable composure, ultimately securing victory while playing with the black pieces.

Who is Tamizh Amudhan?

Born on September 2, 2017, Tamizh learned chess at the tender age of four, inspired by his cousins. His innate understanding of the game has led him to make impressive strides in the chess world. Currently residing in a rented house in Thiruthangal, near Sivakasi, Tamizh has been living away from his family for the past year to focus on his training, with his father and sister remaining in their hometown.

A Test of Perseverance

The photograph capturing Tamizh during the tournament has gone viral, illustrating his perseverance in the face of adversity. With heavy rains causing power outages, he relied on a mobile hotspot to connect to the tournament.
