Esports Foundation and JioBLAST Unite for ‘India Rising: Road to EWC’ Festival

In a groundbreaking move for the Indian esports landscape, the Esports Foundation (EF) and JioBLAST have announced a strategic partnership to launch the ‘India Rising: Road to EWC (Esports World Cup 2026)’ festival. This initiative aims to create a national competition pathway leading up to the world’s largest esports event, set to take place in Riyadh from August 11 to 15, 2026.

The festival will kick off with nationwide open qualifiers for chess, culminating in a grand finale held on LAN at a fan festival in Mumbai. The winner of this prestigious event will earn a coveted spot in the EWC 2026 main event, marking a significant milestone for chess in India, a nation renowned for its prowess in the game.

A Platform for All Players

The ‘India Rising’ festival is designed to be inclusive, inviting all titled Indian players to participate in a closed qualifier section. More than 10,000 grassroots players are expected to register for open qualifiers, showcasing the depth of talent in the country.

The Mumbai festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of esports, featuring not just the chess finals but also creator programming, live entertainment, and interactive fan experiences. Attendees can look forward to exhibition matches in popular games like VALORANT and Moba Legends: 5v5, alongside live music, cosplay, and dedicated creator areas for fan engagement.

Chess Takes Center Stage

The 2026 Esports World Cup will introduce chess as its inaugural competitive title, building on India’s rich heritage in the game. With a prize pool of $1.5 million, the competition is set to attract top-tier talent, including last year’s champion Magnus Carlsen from Team Liquid.

A Vision for the Future

Beyond the immediate excitement of the festival, the partnership between EF and JioBLAST aims to foster the growth of the esports ecosystem in India. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be formalized to outline future collaborations, ensuring that the momentum generated by ‘India Rising’ continues well beyond 2026.

As the esports community gears up for this monumental event, the ‘India Rising: Road to EWC’ festival stands as a testament to the growing recognition and support for esports in India, paving the way for future champions on the global stage.
