TN Player Dominates Commonwealth Chess Championships with Triple Gold

Kalutara, Sri Lanka – In a stunning display of talent and determination, eight-year-old Candidates Master (CM) Tamizh Amudhan S from Tamil Nadu has made headlines by clinching all three gold medals in the Under-10 Open category at the Commonwealth Youth Chess Championship 2026. The young prodigy achieved this remarkable feat in the standard, rapid, and blitz formats, marking a historic clean sweep for India.

Tamizh’s journey through the tournament was nothing short of extraordinary. He dominated the standard event, scoring an impressive 8.5 points from nine rounds, which set the tone for his subsequent victories in the rapid and blitz sections. His performance not only showcases his skill but also highlights the bright future of Indian chess.

Despite being in the Under-9 age bracket, Tamizh has already made a name for himself on the international stage, boasting five Asian medals and surpassing the 2000 Elo rating mark at such a young age. Earlier this month, he garnered attention by defeating German Grandmaster Vincent Keymer, currently ranked World No. 7, in an online blitz match.

Tamizh’s achievements are a testament to his hard work and dedication, and they signal a promising future for this young chess talent. As he continues to rise through the ranks, the chess community eagerly anticipates his next moves.

Saptak Talwar Finishes T-40 at Danish Golf Challenge

Denmark – Indian golfer Saptak Talwar showcased resilience at the Danish Golf Challenge, finishing tied for 40th place after a strong final round. Talwar carded a commendable 4-under 68, bringing his total score for the week to 8-under par (67-70-75-68).

After a couple of inconsistent rounds, Talwar’s final performance was a breath of fresh air. He began the round with a bogey but quickly turned things around with three consecutive birdies, finishing the front nine at 3-under par. On the back nine, he added two more birdies before dropping a shot on the 15th hole, ultimately closing the round at 4-under.

Currently ranked 21st on the Road to Mallorca Standings, Talwar is in contention for one of the 15 cards available for the 2026 DP World Tour. His recent success at the DP World PGTI Open, where he finished second, has further solidified his position as a rising star in Indian golf.

Yuvraj Sandhu Struggles at Soudal Open

Belgium – In contrast to Talwar’s performance, Indian golfer Yuvraj Sandhu faced challenges at the Soudal Open, finishing tied for 63rd place. The 29-year-old, playing his debut season on the DP World Tour, struggled with a final round of 2-over 73, concluding the tournament with a total score of 5-under par (70-68-68-73).

Sandhu’s final day was marked by a series of bogeys, including two on the fifth and sixth holes, which hindered his momentum. Despite making a birdie on the 15th hole, he dropped more than 30 places from T-32 to T-63, a disappointing finish after a promising start.

Meanwhile, fellow Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma faced a similar fate, missing the cut for the third consecutive tournament. His last successful cut was at the Turkish Airlines Open back in March.

As the golf season progresses, both Talwar and Sandhu will be looking to bounce back and make their mark on the international stage.
