New Delhi – In a groundbreaking move for the world of sports, Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, officially launched the inaugural World Yogasana Championship (WYC) 2026 in New Delhi. This championship marks the first-ever global competition dedicated to Yogasana as a competitive sport, set to take place from June 4 to 8 at the Eka Arena in Ahmedabad.
The event is expected to attract elite Yogasana athletes and delegations from over 60 countries, including Uganda, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Kenya, Japan, Oman, Mauritius, and the Netherlands.
During the launch, Mandaviya emphasized the significance of the championship, stating, “The World Yogasana Championship reflects the strength of our youth, our culture, and our vision of positioning India at the forefront of emerging global sports. This championship is a fantastic step towards the global expansion of our sport, which serves as a gateway to the Yoga Way of Life. I welcome all countries to India and am confident that this championship will pave a pathway to a new Yogasana sporting economy.”

Iniyan Panneerselvam Shines at Commonwealth Chess Championship
Sri Lanka – Grandmaster Iniyan Panneerselvam has made headlines by clinching double gold at the Commonwealth Chess Championship, held recently in Sri Lanka. The talented player from Tamil Nadu dominated both the Rapid and Blitz formats, scoring an impressive 6.5 points from seven rounds in each category.
In the Rapid event, Grandmaster Srihari secured the silver medal, while GM Mitrabha took home the bronze. The Blitz competition saw Grandmaster Rohith Krishna finish with silver, with Srihari again making it to the podium with another bronze.
The championship featured 96 players competing across Blitz, Rapid, and Classical formats, showcasing the depth of talent in the chess community. The Classical title was claimed by Mitrabha, with Sri Lankan player Ranindu Liyanage and Srihari rounding out the podium.
Indian Golfers Set to Shine at IGPL Tour in Morocco
El Jadida, Morocco – Indian golfers Pukhraj Singh Gill and Karandeep Kochhar are set to lead a formidable challenge as the IGPL Tour makes its debut in North Africa with the inaugural Morocco Rising Stars tournament. The event kicks off a three-week golfing swing in Morocco, with the IGPL Classic following closely from June 4 to 7, and the USD 2 million International Series Morocco scheduled for June 11 to 14.
Gill, the 2025 IGPL Order of Merit winner, and Kochhar, who has previously triumphed on the Asian Development Tour, are among a star-studded field that includes nine of the top ten players in the ADT Order of Merit.
The tournament will take place at the stunning Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, designed by nine-time Major champion Gary Player.
