New Delhi – In a significant move for the Indian esports landscape, S8UL has announced its athlete roster for the upcoming 2026 Esports World Cup (EWC), confirming the signing of Indian chess Grandmaster M. Pranesh. This addition bolsters an already formidable lineup that includes fellow Grandmasters Nihal Sarin and Aravindh Chithambaram, setting the stage for a competitive chess showdown at the prestigious tournament.

The EWC, scheduled to take place from August 11 to 15, will feature the world’s elite players vying for a staggering prize pool of $1.5 million (approximately INR 14 crore). Following its successful debut last year, chess returns to the tournament, with four spots already secured: the defending champion, two players from the Speed Chess Championship 2025, and one from the Chess.com Open 2026.

A Competitive Chess Landscape

The qualification process for the remaining spots is intense, with nine players set to qualify through the Champions Chess Tour standings. Currently, S8UL’s Nihal Sarin ranks seventh, while M. Pranesh holds the 15th position, making them the two highest-ranked Indian players in contention. Additional qualification opportunities will arise at DreamHack Atlanta from May 15 to 17, which offers four spots, and through Last Chance Qualifiers closer to the tournament date.

S8UL’s Diverse Roster

Beyond chess, S8UL is set to compete across a variety of gaming titles, including mobile, PC, console, fighting games, racing, battle royale, and strategy genres. The organization aims to make a significant impact at the EWC 2026, which will be held in Riyadh from July 6 to August 23, featuring over 2,000 players from 200 clubs across more than 100 countries, all competing for a record-breaking $75 million (approximately INR 711 crore) prize pool.
