Indian Women Shine in Chess Olympiad with 3-1 Victory Over Switzerland, Men Poised for Easy Win Against Hungary ‘B’ Team

In a stunning turn of events at the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, young Indian women players R Vaishali, Divya Deshmukh, and Vantika Agarwal shone brightly despite a shock defeat for D Harika on the top board. The Indian team secured a 3-1 victory over Switzerland, keeping them in joint lead with six match points.

Harika’s loss to former world women’s champion Alexandra Kosteniuk, who now represents Switzerland, was a setback for the team. However, Vaishali, Divya, and Vantika stepped up to the challenge with impressive victories in their respective matches.

Vaishali outplayed Ghazal Hakimifard, Divya continued her winning streak against Sofiia Hryzlova, and Vantika proved her strength against Mariia Manko. The Indian women’s team displayed exceptional skill and determination on the chessboard, maintaining their position at the top of the standings.

In the open section, the Indian men were also on track for a victory against Hungary ‘B’ team. Arjun Erigaise stood out as the hero of the day with a brilliant attacking game that ended in a checkmate against Peter Prohazska.

With Vidit Gujrathi securing a draw, Gukesh in a favorable position, and Praggnanandhaa pushing for a win, the Indian men’s team showed great promise in their matches.

Overall, the Indian contingent at the Chess Olympiad displayed remarkable talent and determination, setting the stage for an exciting competition ahead.
