Indian Teams Shine at Esports World Cup 2026 Despite Disappointment
Paris, France – The Indian esports scene reached new heights at the Esports World Cup 2026, with three teams making their debut in the Free Fire World Cup. Team Apex Gaming, S8UL Esports, and Total Gaming Esports represented the nation in a historic campaign, marking India’s first-ever participation in this prestigious event.
The Free Fire segment of the tournament delivered a thrilling moment for Indian fans when Team Apex secured a Booyah in the Survival Stage, a first for the country at this level. Their impressive performance saw them finish second in their group, propelling them into the Grand Finals. However, the title round proved to be a harsh reality check. Both S8UL and Team Apex struggled, finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard, with S8UL in 11th place and Apex in 12th. Total Gaming Esports faced an early exit despite showcasing their skills with two Booyahs in the Survival Stage. The championship was ultimately claimed by Mexico’s LYON, who set a record with an astounding 33 eliminations.
As the Free Fire campaign concluded, the spotlight now shifts to India’s chess representation, set to begin from August 11-15. Grandmasters Aravindh Chithambaram, Nihal Sarin, and Arjun Erigaisi will compete in the $1.5 million tournament after qualifying through the Champions Chess Tour, adding to the excitement surrounding Indian esports.
Additionally, the PUBG Mobile segment is on the horizon, running from August 6 to 16. GodLike Esports, India’s top seed following their victory in the BMPS 2026, faces a challenging Group B alongside Team Vitality and Wolves Esports. Meanwhile, Orangutan will compete in Group A against DRX, RRQ, and FURIA.
India’s Representation at Esports Nation Cup 2026
Looking ahead, the Esports Foundation is set to host the Esports Nation Cup (ENC) 2026 in Riyadh this November. Charanjot Singh has secured his place in the tournament through the FC Pro World Rankings, becoming the highest-ranked player in India. The 23-year-old has previously represented the nation at the FIFAe Nations Cup and FC Pro World Championship.
India will have representation in seven titles at ENC 2026, including Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), Chess, EA Sports FC, Honor of Kings, Rocket League, Trackmania, and VALORANT. The nation received special invites for BGMI and Honor of Kings, while Grandmaster Nihal Sarin qualified directly through the official ENC Rankings. Mitrabha Guha also earned his spot through regional qualifiers, alongside teams in Rocket League, VALORANT, and Trackmania.
With a maximum of two players from each country allowed to qualify, Charanjot’s spot leaves one more available for an Indian player through the South Asia regional qualifier, where four players will advance to the main event.
