U.S. Chess Players Invited to Represent at the 3rd FIDE Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities
SAMARKAND, UZBEKISTAN — The stage is set for the 3rd FIDE Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities, and U.S. chess players are being called to action! The prestigious international event, organized by FIDE and hosted by the Uzbekistan Chess Federation, will take place from September 10-18, 2026, in the historic city of Samarkand.
Registration Deadline Approaches
U.S. Chess is currently accepting registrations of interest from eligible players until Friday, July 3, 2026, at 5 p.m. CDT. This is a unique opportunity for American chess enthusiasts to showcase their skills on a global platform. Interested players can complete the registration form here.
Tournament Format and Eligibility
The Olympiad will feature a 6-round Swiss system tournament, with a time control of 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by an additional 30 minutes, plus 30 seconds per move starting from the first move. To participate, players must hold a current U.S. Chess membership valid through the end of the tournament and possess a USA-flagged FIDE ID. Those without a FIDE ID can request one through the FIDE ID Request Form.
Accommodations and Travel
Participants can look forward to complimentary accommodations, as the organizers will cover the costs for a minimum 4-star hotel stay, including meals, from September 10 to 18. Travel expenses for invited participants will also be covered, ensuring a hassle-free experience for Team USA.
Important Note on Registration
The July 3 deadline is crucial for administrative purposes, and no late registrations will be accepted. Following the registration period, the top five players based on their June 2026 ratings will be notified of their selection to represent the United States.
