Successful Norm-Earning Event at July NYC Chess Norms Invitational

The July NYC Chess Norms Invitational was a resounding success, with three players earning norms across the six sections of the tournament. This event marked the largest invitational in NYC Chess Norms’ history, with 55 unique players competing across six sections, including the first six-day event, now a FIDE requirement for norm events.

In the GM-A section, IM Safal Bora earned his final GM norm, bringing him within 12 FIDE points of the 2500 rating minimum for the GM title. FM Liam Putnam also had a strong showing in the GM-B group, earning his fifth IM norm and crossing the 2400 rating threshold.

CM Eugene Yoo made a splash in the IM-C section, securing his CM title by defeating the second-highest rated player in his section in the first round. FM Danila Poliannikov also shined in the IM-C section, earning his final IM norm with a win in the final round.

Notably, IM Levy Rozman, a well-known streamer and educator, made a dominant return to competitive chess in the IM-D section, achieving an impressive 8/9 score and a 2581 performance rating.

With 44 norms now earned through NYC Chess Norms tournaments, the future looks bright for aspiring players. Stay tuned for information on upcoming events on the NYC Chess Norms website.
