Russian forces suffered their highest number of casualties in a single day since the start of the full-scale war on Ukraine, with 2,200 soldiers lost on December 20. This devastating toll highlights the ongoing struggle Moscow faces with dwindling manpower, particularly due to the high casualty counts from intense assaults on Ukrainian defensive positions.

The Defense of Ukraine reported the grim milestone, emphasizing that they are making the occupiers pay the highest price for their actions. The previous record for daily casualties was set on November 29, with 2,030 soldiers lost. In total, Ukrainian authorities have reported that 772,620 Russian personnel have been killed since the beginning of the conflict.

The situation has prompted Russia to bring in troops from North Korea, with Pyongyang deploying over 12,000 soldiers to the front lines in Kursk. However, a report from South Korea’s spy agency revealed that at least 100 North Korean troops have been killed and 1,000 injured in the fighting in Ukraine, leading to concerns that they have become “cannon fodder” for Putin’s forces.

As the conflict continues, questions arise about Ukraine’s future and the potential for peace talks in 2025. European Union leaders have emphasized the need for Ukraine’s direct involvement in any decisions regarding its future, showing solidarity with the war-torn nation. The deployment of European peacekeepers and strategies for negotiations remain under wraps as leaders work to empower Ukraine in the ongoing conflict.
