After 13 months of silver and bronze finishes, GM Jose Martinez has finally broken his streak by capturing his fourth Bullet Brawl title and the $400 first prize in Saturday’s event. Martinez outshined top GMs like Hikaru Nakamura and Daniel Naroditsky, scoring an impressive 73/80 and posting a score of 264, surpassing Nakamura by 13 points. Naroditsky secured the third spot and will receive $150, while Andrew Tang finished in fourth place, earning $100.

The competition was fierce, with 188 titled players battling it out for the top prize. IM Karina Ambartsumova claimed the $100 best women’s prize by edging out FM Anastasia Avramidou by a single point. Additionally, a new victor named “lethalspider7” emerged victorious in the community event.

Martinez’s victory comes after a challenging year where he faced off-the-board trials and tribulations but managed to maintain his stellar form online. Earlier in the year, he proved his strength in live matches against GM Vladimir Kramnik, solidifying his reputation as a formidable player.

During the tournament, Martinez showcased his exceptional skills by going on a 35-game unbeaten streak, including 10 wins over other GMs. Despite facing tough competition, Martinez’s ability to generate chaos and maintain an indomitable pace led him to victory.

Although Nakamura put up a strong fight and finished in second place, Martinez’s consistent performance throughout the event secured his win. With this latest triumph, Martinez joins Tang in fourth place on the all-time Bullet Brawl leaderboard and sets his sights on a top-five finish on the Titled Cup leaderboard.

The next edition of Bullet Brawl is set to take place on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at noon ET/18:00 CEST. The tournament promises to bring together top GMs and bullet specialists for another thrilling competition.
